GDEC Scholarship Portal: For more information and to apply for the GDEC Scholarship, please visit https://www.gahighwaysafety.org/gdec-resources/

Please note: If applying for a scholarship it must be awarded before a student begins his/her driver’s education course, so please be mindful of this policy if the student/parent choses pay for a course out of pocket and begin the driver’s education course before the application is reconsidered.

Please note: Scholarships must be awarded before a student begins his/her driver’s education course, so please be mindful of this policy if the student/parent chooses to pay for a course out of pocket and begin the driver’s education course before the application is considered.

PARENTS: To help ensure a safe and successful learning experience, we ask that parents and guardians take an active role in preparing their teen before they begin behind-the-wheel sessions with a certified instructor. The required six (6) hours of professional instruction are designed to build upon a student’s existing familiarity with driving—not to serve as their first experience behind the wheel. Before beginning lessons, students should be comfortable with basic vehicle operation, including starting, stopping, turning, steering, and maintaining proper lane position. They should also have some experience driving on open roads in various traffic and weather conditions. Please note that completion of this course does not replace the state requirement for supervised driving practice. Parents and guardians must still supervise a minimum of 40 hours of driving, including at least 6 hours of nighttime driving. We strongly encourage families to begin supervised practice early and consistently. Regular practice helps teens build confidence, develop essential skills, and arrive at their professional instruction sessions better prepared to make the most of their time with the instructor.
