Course Information

Driving is an essential aspect of our lives but carries various risks The state of Georgia now mandates Joshua’s Law for teens between the age of 15-17 before scheduling a road test for the C-license. Albany Technical College provides 30-hours of classroom instruction and 6-hours of in-person driving, which complies with Georgia’s Joshua Law.

Teens 15-17 may apply for the Georgia Driver’s Education Commission Grant Scholarship(GDEC). A valid Georgia learner’s permit (CP) is required to apply for the Scholarship.

Please note: If applying for a scholarship it must be awarded before a student begins his/her driver’s education course, so please be mindful of this policy if the student/parent choses pay for a course out of pocket and begin the driver’s education course before the application is reconsidered.

Georgia Teens

First-time teen drivers looking to apply for your Georgia Driver's License must have met the following requirements before scheduling for a road test with the DMV:

Hold an Instructional license (CP) for 1year and 1 day
Have a Joshua’s Law certificate
Obtain a Georgia DDS certificate of attendance form from school
Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program card (ADAP) from your middle or high school or EDAP (online).

Teens who have not completed Joshua’s Law must be 18 years old to apply for a Class D driver's license.

Section Notes

Students are only eligible to apply for a grant scholarship one time. However, If a student’s application is rejected, the application will be reconsidered for the following two months and given priority over new applicants in their respective priority level. No action is needed to be reconsidered. You will be notified by email on the first day of the following month by 11:59 pm with the outcome of the application on the second consideration.
