Teens 15-17
Step-by-Step Instructions on How to Register for Driver’s Education Classes
Students ages 15–17 with a Georgia learner’s permit are encouraged to apply for the Grant Scholarship (valued at $425.00).
Please note that scholarships are not awarded by Albany Technical College. Therefore, Albany Tech cannot check the status of scholarship applications. The Georgia Driver’s Education Commission (GDEC) operates the scholarship program, so any scholarship-related inquiries must be directed to GDEC. Program eligibility information is available on their website.
STEP 1: Review Course Requirements
Please read all information below before selecting your preferred class.
- Students MUST attend all scheduled lecture sessions to complete the required 30 hours. No absences are allowed.
- Students MUST complete 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training.
- Driving sessions are scheduled on weekdays after school, weekdays when school is not in session, and some weekends.
- A valid Georgia learner’s permit is required to participate.
- Space is limited, and classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis once all required information is submitted.
- Class dates and times are subject to change.
STEP 2: Apply for the Grant Scholarship

- Scholarship applications are due on the last day of each month.
- Award and denial notifications are issued on the 1st of each month and sent via email.

After receiving scholarship approval:
- Forward your award email along with a copy of your Georgia learner’s permit to:
EDP@albanytech.edu - A Continuing Education staff member will send a confirmation email once your scholarship code has been redeemed.
⚠️Do not proceed to Step 3 until you have received your confirmation email.
STEP 3: Register for a Driver’s Education Class
Review the entire course schedule carefully, as class sizes are limited.
- Do not register for a class if you cannot attend all scheduled sessions.
- The 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training will be scheduled separately from the classroom sessions.
- Students registering with a scholarship code will be asked to enter the code during registration.
- Students registering without a scholarship will be prompted to pay with a debit or credit card.

ADULTS - 18+:
This course is designed for adult learners and focuses on essential driving skills, road safety rules, and practical driving tips presented in a concise format. Although driver's education is not a requirement for individuals over the age of 18, taking this course will help you refresh your driving skills before attempting to test at the DMV.
